The Return of Jesus Christ
John 14:1–3
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me... I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." (KJV)
Introduction
One of the greatest promises in the Bible is not simply that Jesus came—but that Jesus is coming again. The first coming brought salvation through the cross. The second coming will bring the fulfillment of God's kingdom, justice, and eternal hope for His people.
The return of Christ is mentioned hundreds of times in the New Testament. It is not a side doctrine—it is central to the Christian faith.
As believers, we do not merely look back to the cross; we also look forward to the crown.
I. Jesus Promised He Would Return
John 14:1–3
On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus comforted His disciples with a promise:
"I will come again."
His promise is certain because:
- Jesus cannot lie.
- Every prophecy concerning His first coming was fulfilled.
- Therefore, His promise of His second coming will also be fulfilled.
II. The Return of Christ Will Be Visible and Glorious
Acts 1:9–11
As Jesus ascended into heaven, two angels declared:
"This same Jesus... shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
Revelation 1:7
"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him."
Jesus will not return quietly or secretly. His coming will be glorious, visible, and undeniable.
The King who once wore a crown of thorns will return wearing many crowns.
III. No One Knows the Day or the Hour
Matthew 24:36
"But of that day and hour knoweth no man..."
Throughout history, many have tried to predict the date of Christ's return. Every prediction has failed.
Jesus calls us not to speculate but to stay ready.

IV. Be Ready for His Return
Matthew 25:1–13 (The Parable of the Ten Virgins)
Five were prepared.
Five were not.
The difference was not knowledge—it was readiness.
Preparation cannot be borrowed at the last moment.
Faith must be personal.
Application:
- Stay spiritually awake.
- Walk in obedience.
- Keep your relationship with Christ fresh.
- Share the gospel while there is still time.
V. His Return Brings Hope to Believers
1 Thessalonians 4:16–18
Paul reminds grieving believers that death is not the end.
Christ will return.
The dead in Christ will rise.
Believers will be with the Lord forever.
Then Paul says:
"Comfort one another with these words."
The return of Jesus is not meant to create fear in those who belong to Him—it is meant to inspire hope.
VI. His Return Calls the Church to Holy Living
2 Peter 3:11–14
Peter asks:
"What manner of persons ought ye to be?"
Knowing Christ is coming should affect:
- Our priorities
- Our purity
- Our worship
- Our witness
We should live each day as faithful servants awaiting the Master's return.
Conclusion
The return of Jesus is more than a prophecy—it is a promise.
- He came once as the suffering Savior.
- He will come again as the reigning King.
- He came to redeem.
- He will come to reign.
- He came in humility.
- He will return in glory.
The question is not "Is Jesus coming back?" The Bible answers that with a resounding yes.
The real question is:
"Are you ready to meet Him?"
Invitation
If you know Christ, rejoice and remain faithful. Lift up your head, for your redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28).
If you have never trusted Christ, today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). His invitation is still open, but the time to respond is now.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise that Your Son, Jesus Christ, will return. Help me to live with faith, hope, and readiness. Keep me faithful in prayer, diligent in service, and bold in sharing the gospel. May I eagerly await the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Until that day, strengthen me to live a life that honor You. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
