“Take It by the Tail: Faith Over Fear”

Text: Exodus 4:1–5

Introduction

When God called Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt, Moses felt afraid and unqualified. He questioned God and worried that people would not believe him. God did not give Moses a long explanation; instead, He gave him a simple command. God asked Moses to throw his staff on the ground, and it became a snake. Then God told him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (Exodus 4:4).

God was not only teaching Moses how to handle a snake; He was teaching him how to handle fear. Before Moses could lead a nation, he had to learn how to trust God in difficult moments.

1. God Will Test Your Faith Through Your Fears

Moses saw a snake and naturally wanted to avoid it. A snake represents danger, uncertainty, and fear. But God told Moses to move toward what he feared. Many times, God allows situations in our lives that challenge our faith. We may fear failure, rejection, responsibility, or the future. But God does not call us to live controlled by fear.

2 Timothy 1:7 says:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Faith does not mean there is no fear; faith means trusting God more than our fear.

2. Obedience Opens the Door to God’s Power

Moses could have argued with God and said, “Lord, that is dangerous.” But Moses obeyed. When he reached out his hand, God changed the situation.

The miracle happened after obedience.

Sometimes we wait for God to change things before we obey, but God often changes things when we step out in faith.

James 2:17 says:

"Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

Obedience places us where we can experience God's power.

3. What Frightens You Can Become a Tool in God’s Hands

The snake that scared Moses became the staff that Moses used to perform miracles. God transformed the very thing that caused fear into an instrument of purpose.Your weakness, your past, your struggles, and your challenges can become tools that God uses for His glory.

The same Moses who was afraid became the man who stood before Pharaoh and declared, “Let my people go.”

4. Hold On to What God Gives You

The staff represented Moses’ calling and authority. God was teaching him that what He gives us must be held with faith and responsibility.God has placed gifts, opportunities, and assignments in our hands. We cannot throw them away because of fear.

1 Corinthians 15:58 says:

"Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord."

Conclusion: Take It by the Tail

God is still speaking today: “Take it by the tail.” Face the challenge. Trust My word. Walk in obedience. The thing you fear may become the thing God uses to bless others. The situation that looks impossible can become a testimony of His power.

Prayer:

“Lord, give me courage to obey You even when I am afraid. Help me trust Your power more than my circumstances. Turn my fears into opportunities for Your glory. In Jesus Name Amen.”
