Scripture: Book of Exodus 1:8–14
Introduction
There are seasons when God blesses His people with growth, favor, and increase. Yet growth often attracts opposition. In Exodus, the Israelites multiplied and became strong in Egypt. Instead of celebrating their contribution, Pharaoh saw their increase as a threat. Fear led him to oppress the very people God was blessing.
The same principle can appear in our lives today. As we grow in faith, character, influence, or purpose, we may encounter resistance. But opposition does not mean God has abandoned His plan. Often, it is a sign that His purpose is still unfolding.
1. God Blesses His People with Growth
The Israelites were fruitful and increased greatly. Their growth was not an accident—it was evidence of God's promise and faithfulness.
Growth may come in many forms:
- Spiritual maturity
- Stronger families
- New opportunities
- Greater influence
- Deeper faith
When God is at work, increase follows His purpose.
2. Fear Can Lead to Oppression
Pharaoh's fear shaped his actions. Instead of trusting, he enslaved the Israelites.
Fear can cause people to:
- Resist change.
- Control others.
- Oppose what God is doing.
- Mistreat those they see as a threat.
The lesson is not to respond with fear ourselves. Fear narrows our vision, while faith opens it.
3. Opposition Cannot Stop God's Purpose
Despite harsh labor and oppression, the Israelites continued to multiply. The more they were afflicted, the more they increased.
This reminds us that:
- Obstacles cannot cancel God's promises.
- Trials can strengthen faith.
- God's plan is greater than human resistance.
What others intend to suppress, God can use to display His faithfulness.
4. God Delivers His People
The story of Exodus does not end in slavery. God raised up Moses to lead His people out of bondage. Deliverance came in God's timing, showing that He hears the cries of His people and acts according to His promises.
Our hope rests not in circumstances but in God's character.
Conclusion
Growth may bring challenges, but it also reveals God's ongoing work. When others respond with fear, choose faith. When obstacles arise, remember that God is still at work.

"People may fear what God is growing, but they cannot stop what God has ordained. The same God who blesses His people with growth also gives them the strength to endure opposition and the power to walk into freedom."
